Through the Word and Sacraments, as through instruments, the Holy Ghost is given, who works faith; where and when it pleases God, in them that hear the Gospel, to wit, that God, not for our own merits, but for Christ’s sake, justifies those who believe that they are received into grace for Christ’s sake.

Christ Alone † Faith Alone † Word Alone
Christ Alone
The holy Son of God, Christ Jesus, our Lord, the Second Person of the blessed Trinity, is the all atoning sacrifice for sins and the only way to the Father.
We teach that the Word, that is, the Son of God, did assume the human nature in the womb of the blessed Virgin Mary, so that there are two natures, the divine and the human, inseparably enjoined in one Person, one Christ, true God and true man, who was born of the Virgin Mary, truly suffered, was crucified, dead, and buried, that He might reconcile the Father unto us, and be a sacrifice, not only for original guilt, but also for all actual sins of men.
Faith Alone
Through faith in the promised mercy of Christ, we receive the reconciliation, forgiveness, and unending life of Christ.
We teach that men cannot be justified before God by their own strength, merits, or works, but are freely justified for Christ’s sake, through faith, when they believe that they are received into favor, and that their sins are forgiven for Christ’s sake, who, by His death, has made satisfaction for our sins. 🔗 This faith God imputes for righteousness in His sight.
Word Alone
Through the Word of God, both the written Word and the Word attached to physical means in the Holy Sacraments, faith is created, the Spirit is given, and renewal begun. The Word of God is the only infallible and authoritative rule and guide for our doctrine, life, and practice.
The Book of Concord
The Book of Concord is a collection of 16th century confessional documents written by the blessed Reformers which lays forth our confession of faith drawn from the Holy Scriptures.
A Confession of Unity
The Book of Concord confesses the universal Christian faith by putting forth both what we believe and what we reject. So that we might all attain to the unity of the faith, we confess and subscribe unreservedly to this book in its entirety as an eternally true and right explanation of the doctrine of the Holy Scriptures.
